Congratulations to the Cross Country Ski Headquarters Team for winning the 2010 Michigan Cup, the forth time in a row, and the fifth time since 2004! As the sun came out or the clouds, Team Captain Frank Rynalski accepted the Cup at Saturday’s Michigan Cup bike, run, lunch and awards ceremony at the Cross Country Ski Headquarters in Higgins Lake.

Skiers from the Michigan Cup teams gained points, based on their overall place, at every event raced during the season. Each skier’s points were added together for an individual’s total team points. The points from all senior skiers were added together for a senior point total, and all the junior points were added for a junior total. The overall Michigan Cup team totals were computed by adding 80% of the senior points with 20% of the junior points.

The results were very close, with the Headquarters just barely edging out Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop by less than 500 points, 29,871.6 to 29,381.8. The Vasa Ski Club was not far behind with 28,357.2 points, and might have won if they had sent racers to the Team Time Trial.

Hi Team,

Lot’s of news !!! First I want to congratulate everyone for helping us win our FIRST Brumbaugh Cup and our four-in-a-row Mi.Cup Championship !!!!!!!!!  Job well done, we have so many dedicated Team Members that makes this possible !!!!

So, this coming Saturday March 20th. since the Relays are canceled, two events are going to happen. At 10:00am meet at the XCHQ parking lot. We are going to have a Mi.Cup Bicycle Tour around Higgins Lake, come on out and ride with members from all the other Mi.Cup Teams !!!  All abilities are welcome, so bring your road, mtn., tandem or whatever. Approximate time 1 1/2 hrs. at a 15mph. pace. For those who don’t wish to bike, you can run, walk, hike cat-ski etc.on the XCHQ Trails. Maps will be provided for the bike ride. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
After your ride, run, walk or whatever at noon Bob and Lynne will be hosting a pulled pork meal at no charge !!!  Following the meal will be the Mi.Cup Award presentations. So plan on a day of celebration and true Team camaraderie this coming Saturday, a day you don’t want to miss !!!
Just to let you know, we had 19 Teams formed for the Relay’s !!!  It’s great to have members who don’t care which team or who they ski with at the relays. I want to personally thank everyone who made it happen AGAIN this year. We are now tied for the most Mi.Cup Championships in a row, what will next season bring !!!???
Hope to see you Sat, should be lots of fun. Thanks again, Frank

Yes, Susan and I raced most of the day near each other and she IS the energizer bunny!  I even called her that out there.

I started wondering what that said about me since she was in front of me for at least a 1/3 of the race if not more and with one arm no less.  She is my idol!

Pam

Hi Team,
You’ve got to read this from Sue Joslin, This is an example of the dedicated TEAM members we have. Sue you need to be on one of those motivational billboards on the side of the highway !!!
    GO TEAM !!!!!!!!!

Nice recap. Yeah I raced about 28K with one arm.  I decided to take my pole with me because I wasn’t sure if I would need it to get up the big hills, and I couldn’t carry the pole since I tried that before and the shear length of the pole was too heavy for my shoulder so I stuffed it down my back, under my shirt, upside down, pointy side up.  So when I would go by a group of people I was telling them that I didn’t own a gun and I really just wanted to enter the biathalon.   They chuckled but most wanted to really know why.

It was a fun race despite the conditions.  I feel bad for those who it was their first BM race since this was not the race I mean when I say that Black Mtn. is my favorite race!!  certainly not Saturday’s race.

See you soon.   Not sure if I will be doing Boyne as I have a concert this wkend which I will be missing.
Susan

Hi Team,
Great job to everyone who did the wax challenging Black Mountain race. You either had good ski’s at the start or at the finish, seems few had good ski’s the entire course, started out cold and a semi- transformed like powder at the start to a sun beaten semi slush in the open area’s. No-wax ski’s were a good choice, klister iced up and kick wax sheared off.
We had some great XCHQ Team performances, everyone who finished were winners in my book !!! I normally don’t do this but I’m going to give an individual re-cap of the XCHQ Skiers. Again, I apologize if I omit someone, as I get older my mind is getting more forgetful and this last race made me even more brain-dead !!!
Top Male finisher was Larry Kanaby, what a race 18th.overall with a 2:04 !!!!  seconds behind was Ryan Harris this kid is unbeleivable, this was his FIRST classic race, great job !!!!  Rick Neirer flew by me on a set of RCS Crowns, great climbing and gliding plus the animal on the ski’s !!!  Frank Rynalski, yours truly, found himself once again through much self talk, not pretty, but I finished !!! Devan Thielfoldt, evidently not pleased with his 6 foot 1 stature thought he should be taller so he added another 3 inches to his height with iced up klister ski’s that resembled stilts !!! Dale Ernst, right on Devans heels completyed his longest ski race with the Black Mountain race, and finished fresh as a daisy !!! Dan Siniff, good to see Dan racing was looking good on some hot-prepared ski’s !!!  Richard Wells, the endurance animal was even and steady looking good as usual !!!  On the Womens side, Catarina Gulledge, also on a pair of RCS Crowns was looking smooth and powerful finishing 1st. in her age division and 3rd.Woman overall !!!  Sue Joslin, this girl deserves an award, coming back from a shoulder injury, heck for all I know, she probably used one arm the whole course !!! Pam Riehl, another endurance animal, she’s like the energizer bunny, keeps on going and going !!! Jean Murray, we all need to take a lesson from Jean ( I apologize, I’m going to mention your age ) at 71 years old, your remarkable, competing and finishing these races are commendable as much as the Top overall race winners !!! I think I covered everyone, GREAT JOB TEAM !!!!
This coming weekend March 13th.and 14th. are the Boyne Highland races. Historically big point races, since a lot racers pass these up, hence a great chance to earn some big Mi.Cup points. We are in 2nd. place overall very close to 1st. place Vasa Team !!! We need attendance athe last few races and DEFINATELY the Relay’s !!!!  For info on these races go to www.nordic ski racer.com  under upcoming events left side of screen.
