Trail and Grooming Update
|
This fall three members of the trail crew (Bob Kevin & Steve) were called together by groomer Kevin to spend a day grinding stumps that the fresh snow covers on the trails.! Kevin had gone out the day before and marked over 45 stumps, some over 24 inches in diameter, made of solid oak! We rented a big old gas powered stump grinder from Reasonable Rentals and proceeded to grind away. This stump grinder turned out to work very well but was exhausting for the crew. By the end of the day the all trails were cleared and the crew's arms had turned to jello! Also this fall we have close mowed all the trails and blown the leaves off them. This really helps the ground freeze faster and with the short grass we do not need as much snow to start skiing. There have been some huge trees fall on the trails this summer and fall and they have all been cleared. Thanks to the continued support of the Cross Country Ski Headquarter's Trail Sponsors (see page 32) The state of the art Ginzugroomer and track setter continues to surpass the most optimistic expectations! The tracks and skating lanes at Cross Country Ski Headquarters have shown great improvement in last 3 seasons. We could groom even when there was not very much snow! This is an improved version that was used to help groom for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake! Combine the snow combing and compacting attributes of the Ginzu and the low snow track setting capability of our Swedish made LatueXpert Trackmaker roller along with our continuing efforts to make the trails smooth in the off season and the reliability of Groomer Kevin who starts grooming around 5:30 AM all winter long and you have some of the best groomed trails around! |
