EVENTS:
From Devan: I am sure many of you are looking forward to some consistent warm weather to get out and ride the bikes, paddle or test out the roller ski's. It is hard to believe that only a few short weeks ago we all celebrated winning the Michigan Cup for the 4th time. WOW what a great year!!!!! But before you put those ski's away in the corner of your basement or garage there is a couple of things you really should do. 1. Check your bases for any damage. 2. "SUMMER WAX" your ski's. Some of you may say "what the heck is Devan talking about" or "too late man I am already on the bike and not looking back". I understand entirely so the team has scheduled a little casual get together to hopefully meet everyone's summer sport motivations and take care of those ski's and poles. On Saturday, April 18th at 1:00 p.m. we will meet at the XC Ski Headquarters for some fun training on the trails and afterward several of us will s/u our wax benches and irons to take care of your ski's and prepare them for storage. A. Training on the ski trails - 1:00 - 3:00 this includes bringing your mountain bike, hybrid bike, cat ski's or running shoes and we will head out for a couple hours of training. You can go whatever pace or distance you choose. As you know there is no technical stuff for the bikers. If you have never been on the Ski Headquarters trails when there is no snow you will really enjoy this, everything looks quite different. If you want to try the cat ski's bring your classic boots and poles. B. Summer Wax and Ski Repair - after the training we will s/u several wax benches in the ski lodge and repair your ski's if needed, show you how to prepare and summer wax your own ski's and switch your pole baskets to roller ski ferrules if needed. If you have it, bring along the warmest and lowest price glide wax you can dig out of your supply( usually the yellow stuff). If you don't have any wax Bob and Lynne can fix you up for a minimal fee. No high fluoros for this job. C. Last but not least - while we are waxing bring some munchies and drink to share; we can even bring in some pizzas depending on the groups desire. And if I can muster up a TV to bring along we can play the recent DVD I purchased of this years Birkie Race. Can you believe it out of over 7,000 plus skiers they actually captured on video none the less but our own team speed machine LARRY KANABY. Wait until you see LK's V1 technique coming up the power line hills in full team colors. TRULY UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!! See you on the 18th. Devan Cross Country Ski Headquarters Team Member
